Boundless space: thanks to its third seat row, the new GL has seating for up to seven people. But nobody has to do without the customary comfort of a Mercedes-Benz. The additional seat row can be conveniently accessed using EASY-ENTRY and can also be electrically folded down if space is needed The luggage compartment then has a volume of up to 1320 litres.

A through-loading feature through the armrest is available for the second row of seats, which makes it possible to transport long objects such as skis, while still allowing the two seats in the rear to be used. .

The through-loading feature is unlocked by a release catch in the boot and can be opened up from the boot. The backrest in the rear must first have been unlocked and lowered into loading position. Once the rear armrest has been folded down and the centre headrest pulled into its most extended position, the release catch must be pushed to the left and the flap pivoted to the left until it lies on the reverse of the back seat backrest.

At the touch of a button the electrically-powered EASY-ENTRY system makes light work of getting into the third seat row from either side. The backrests and seats in the second row can be folded down separately in a ratio of 40 (right) to 60 (left).

The switches are on the top edges of the backrests. By activating the switch, the head restraints retract and the backrests fold down. The bench seat then folds forward.

The EASY-PACK tailgate can be opened and closed with the push of a button and allows for easy loading and unloading of the load compartment. The tailgate can be opened with either the button on the ignition key, the switch on the driver's door or the release handle on the boot lid.

The tailgate can be halted in any position to prevent contact with an object, for example a garage door. .

Furthermore, a boot opening limiter can also be set using the multifunction menu in the instrument cluster. In this case, the tailgate is only opened as far as the roof edge. For safety reasons, automatic closing can only be activated using the switch on the tailgate and closing is only stopped automatically if an item of luggage or cargo is in the way. Irrespective of this, manual opening and closing is possible using the tailgate release handle.

The rear sill protector guards the load compartment sill from scratches and dirt – even clothes stay clean while loading. And before loading and unloading the load compartment the rear sill protector can be laid over the stainless steel sill and bumper shell with one simple manoeuvre and affixed in place inside the load compartment floor with a magnetic strip. As a result the loading area is protected to a large extent from scratches and damage.

The EASY-PACK load compartment cover consists of a roller blind located behind the rear seats. The cover prevents the luggage compartment from being seen from the outside and can be removed at any time.

Long or bulky objects can be transported with ease thanks to the conveniently spacious load area, as the second row of rear seats can be split 40 : 60 or completely folded down. If the seat cushions are also folded down this provides up to 2300 litres of stowage space.
